No Till Podcast

I’ve enjoyed the No- Till Market Garden Podcast and was very excited to hear the interview with Kinsey. I read his Hands On Agronomy book when I was in residency and have used him to analyze my beds/compost. The overall approach to soil is pretty fascinating to me for a multitude of reasons.

  1. I’m not really a stake holder in any particular ideology

  2. The diversity of recommendations and approaches are wild

  3. The societal versus holistic communities perceived importance of soil (ie it is becoming less important in production agriculture). Just this week there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about indoor greens production.

  4. Healthy soil is a wonderful mirror of healthy people

So my fascination with farming started with agronomy. Seems logical but it is often difficult to reconcile the conventional with the natural/organic worlds approach to soil science. The organic recommendations from Kinsey’s lab gave me a recipe of OMRI listed compounds that I could lay on my beds to make them more balanced. It provided a balanced bed on which I could build using crop rotation, no-till, and other regenerative agricultural methods.
